道路施工时，检查井一般多为雨水井。雨水井分两类：雨水主管网检查井和路面雨水收集井。雨水主管网检查井又分在路面上及绿化带的。雨水收集井一般设置在道路路牙石一起。

道路施工时，雨水主管网检查井在做路基的时候就要开始施工。目前大多数产用传统的砖砌或水泥模块井。井盖多为球墨铸铁井盖或水泥钢纤维井盖。雨水收集井基本都采取砖砌方式，使用水泥钢纤维雨水篦子或球墨铸铁雨水篦子。
